United Church of Christ
United Church of Christ What denomination is First Congregational Church? While people often think First Congregational Church belongs to the Congregational denomination, we are actually part of the United Church of Christ (UCC).
The United Church of Christ was formed in 1957 as a new Christian denomination, which was created with the union of several Protestant traditions, including the Congregational, Christian, and Evangelical and Reformed churches. With this merger, First Congregational Church joined the UCC, although we kept “congregational” in our name, in honor of our heritage.
The UCC makes a meaningful impact worldwide through its diverse ministries, focusing on humanitarian aid and community service. By providing essential resources, support, and advocacy, it helps vulnerable populations, promotes social justice, and fosters hope and resilience in communities across the globe. The UCC stands firm in its belief that a faithful life is a life of service, embodied through acts of love and commitment to transformative justice. This is reflected in the denomination’s involvement in local and global outreach programs, where congregations collaborate to support those in need and promote healing in their communities.
